Election

An election for the director to serve a three-year term for District 2, Seat 4 will begin on April 7, 2025, and conclude on May 9, 2025, at midnight.

The election will be conducted by Survey and Ballot Systems, under the supervision of the Diverse Power Elections and Credentials Committee, in accordance with the Cooperative’s bylaws.

Any member of record on February 28, 2025, may vote by one of two options:

1) Electronic Voting – On April 7, 2025, every member with an on-file email address will receive an email from noreply@directvote.net with instructions explaining “how to vote” electronically along with a profile of the candidates for election. To assure your election-specific broadcast email arrives safely in your inbox, simply add the following email address as an approved sender noreply@directvote.net. The Member Number and Election Passcode are required to cast your ballot at https://www.directvote.net/DPI. Electronic ballots must be cast before 11:59 p.m., May 9, 2025. Vote by ranked choice.

2) Mail-In VotingOn April 7, 2025, paper ballots will be mailed to members. The mailing will include a paper ballot, candidates’ biographies, and a postage-paid, self-addressed envelope. Mail-in ballots must be received by US Mail by May 9, 2025.  Please allow time for delivery. Vote by ranked choice.

Votes must be cast by one of these two options.  There will be no voting in person for the contested election on the day of the annual meeting.

The election results will be announced during the business session of the Annual Meeting on May 14, 2025.

3) Ranked Choice VotingSince there are three candidates in this election, we will implement Ranked-Choice Voting (RCV), a system that allows voters to rank candidates by preference—first, second and third choice. This method ensures that the elected candidate has broad support among the electorate.

How Ranked-Choice Voting Works:

1. Ranking Candidates: On your ballot, you’ll rank the candidates in order of preference.
2. First-Choice Count: All first-choice votes are tallied. If a candidate receives more than half of these votes, they are declared the winner.
3. Elimination and Redistribution: If no candidate secures a majority, the candidate with the fewest first-choice votes is eliminated. Voters who selected the eliminated candidate as their first choice will have their votes reallocated to their next preferred candidate.
4. Repeating the Process: Steps 2 and 3 are repeated until a candidate achieves a majority and is elected.

By adopting Ranked-Choice Voting, we aim to enhance the democratic process, ensuring that elected officials represent the true preferences of our community.
